Great Lakes Odyssey 2: Mission Launch Guide
Are you ready to set sail on Great Lakes Odyssey 2? This isn’t just another classroom activity — it’s a story-driven, science-powered, mystery-solving adventure across the greatest freshwater system on Earth. Here’s how to launch your crew and make the most of the journey.
🚩 Step 1: Explore Your Park Basecamps
Each stop on our Odyssey has its own Park Page — your digital basecamp. Start with the vocabulary and reading list to unlock the key ideas we’ll be investigating. These resources give your crew the background knowledge they’ll need before stepping into the story.
🗺️ Step 2: Map the Voyage
Hang a large Great Lakes map in your classroom. As we travel from park to park, students can track our route, visualize where each ecosystem lives, and feel like they’re moving across the lakes in real time. Bonus: it builds geography skills without anyone noticing.
🔎 Step 3: Spot the Mystery
Every park brings a challenge to solve — a real environmental question scientists and rangers are working on today. Students will use their Great Lakes Odyssey Journal to record clues, sketch ideas, and design possible solutions. They’re not just learning about science — they’re practicing it.
📚 Step 4: Power Up with Books
Before each LiveStream, dive into a few of the curated books connected to that park. Many have read-aloud versions online. This builds curiosity, sparks discussion, and helps students step into the setting before we arrive virtually.
🎨 Step 5: Enter the Graphic Comic
Each park has its own Great Lakes Odyssey 2 graphic comic chapter. Read it together and let students choose which character they’d be on the team. They’ll add their own ideas, dialogue, and story twists — becoming official members of the Odyssey crew.
🎥 Step 6: Join the LiveStream Adventure
Now it’s time to go live with real rangers, scientists, and explorers. Before each event, have students write questions they want answered. Send them ahead to [email protected], and we may call on your class during the broadcast. Cameras on if you’d like to be seen — cameras off if you prefer to just watch. Either way, your crew is part of the mission.
🌟 Get ready to set sail.
The Great Lakes Odyssey 2 is more than a virtual field trip — it’s a year-long expedition where students investigate real science, meet real experts, and become real explorers.
We’re so glad you’re joining the journey. Adventure awaits.
